Negative targeting is done to prevent any additional keyword that you can encounter in Broad, Phrase or Auto Campaigns, so one way of improving is just that you do research and know what keywords you can get in these campaigns and negatively target those keywords when you create the campaign, another one is to consistently check the keywords that are irrelevant and negatively target them if they are giving more spend, this helps with spend control and let you target more precisely.

Negative keywords are essential part of Phrase, Broad and Auto Campaigns. I use brand names as negative phrase in my Broad match campaigns, if I am doing Auto campaign then I will prefer to target all irrelevant products for substitute match and brand names for big brands for close match campaigns.

You should target negative keywords in your campaign to improve the campaign performance, here you target those keywords which you think that these keywords can cause you irrelevant spending, and once you start getting the search terms you got some irrelevant search terms which kept giving to spending but no sales this cause you high ACOS of the campaign, you should target these keywords as negative to avoid high spending and high ACOS.

The use of negative keywords is crucial in phrase, broad, and auto campaigns. In my broad match campaigns, I utilize brand names as a derogatory terms. If I’m running an auto campaign, I’d rather target all irrelevant products with substitute matches and major brands with close match campaigns.

Negative keywords are used on Amazon to stop your ad campaigns from showing up in search results for related but unrelated product searches. Your ad campaigns will be limited to a certain market or audience in this method, giving you a possibility for a raised rating.

When we are optimizing our PPC campaign negative targeting is most important tool that we use, sometime we see in search terms customer search product keyword with brand name and brand getting sales and we are getting only spend so we need to negative targeting in phrase this brand name.
When we will negative target this brand name we will control the spend on irrelevant keywords, when we spend this budget on aggressive bids then we can get good number of sales and improve campaign performance as well.
